Assignment: Agriculture Implements
Materials: New document within your Ch. 4 folder titled Agriculture Implements
Directions: Research and find agricultural scenes and implements (machinery) from the late 1800s and early 1900s. Select photographs that indicate how people performed particular tasks, such as planting seeds, harvesting grains, or taking care of livestock. Write a few sentences that describe each activity and explain how improved technology changed the way people lived. (Minimum of three photos).

Materials: Small Group (2 ppl max), presentation.
Directions: Tap into your creativity and become an inventor! Work in teams to develop a list of problems in your school or classroom that need to be solved. Select one of the problems to work on, and brainstorm to come up with some possible solutions. Choose the invention that you think will solve the problem most effectively and will be the most useful to fellow students. Make a drawing of your invention, write an explanation of how it works, and decide upon a name for it. Present your invention to the rest of the class. The website invent.org may be of some help.

Materials: Blank sheet of paper/colored pencils/markers
Directions: Research political cartoons based upon the "robber barons" of the late 1800's and early 1900s. Re-create a political cartoon and explain what the cartoon is pointing out. Secondly create a short biography (1 paragraph) about the "robber baron(s)" in your chosen cartoon.
